In this  Innoversity Network meeting members of Innoversity Network got to meet Knowledge Management Expert Dr. Madanmohan Rao, who is the editor of a new Knowledge Management series.

We were app. 35 members present for the event, which was quite impressive, taking into account that the event was announced less than a week in advance. The meeting was hosted at ARENA at Nørrebrogade 14B, which is now the Copenhagen Innoversity Office .

At the meeting Madan introduced us to the learnings from his book about Knowledge Management practices in 15 IT companies from the US, Europe and Asia. The discussion also presented what Madan calls the "8 Cs" of KM: connectivity, content, community, culture, capacity, cooperation, commerce and capital.

You can learn more about Madan here, and if you are interested in seeing the whole presentation, you can find the PowerPoint Madan used for his presentation here.

After the presentation and some questions we had a short sandwich break. Following the break, Thomas Mathiasen assisted Madan & Susanne in splitting people into diverse groups - for group discussions to take place.

Every group was then asked to present the rest of us with the primary challenges - as they saw them - in relation to innovation and Knowledge Management. The result of these discussions were quite interesting, as a range of different challenges popped up:

  • Trust

  • Cultural differences

  • Information overload (complexity)

  • Equality (how to overcome negative social identities)

  • Structures (availability + access)

  • Motivation (incentive structures)

  • To create a gypsy culture

  • Support creative stupidity

  • Demolition of walls

  • Downscaling

  • Managerial perception vs. innovators

  • How to apply to non-profit institutions
